How to Clean the Platen Roller
What you need
- Same as above: lint-free cloth or cleaning swabs + IPA.
Steps
- With the printhead open, locate the platen roller (the long black rubber roller under the printhead).
- Rotate the roller by hand.
- Apply a small amount of IPA to a cloth/swab.
- Wipe the roller while slowly rotating it, ensuring the full surface is cleaned.
- Use single-direction wiping motions.
- Let the roller air dry (1–2 minutes).
- Check that the roller is free from adhesive, paper dust, or shiny worn spots.
Tips
- If adhesive buildup is heavy, you may need a Zebra-approved adhesive remover wipe before IPA.
- Never use sharp tools or harsh chemicals.
Optional: Sensor & Interior Cleaning
- Use compressed air or a dry swab to remove label dust inside the printer.
- Wipe media guides and paths with IPA lightly if dirty.
