Following these guidelines has never been more important than now on account of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. As we are all aware, infected surfaces are a possible source of infection. Hence, these guidelines can help you to create a cleaner and safer workplace that minimizes the risk of infection.

In addition, these guidelines will ensure that your devices do not get damaged as a consequence of disinfection. Keep in mind, any disinfection procedure used should be safe for both the people and devices being disinfected.

How To Disinfect Barcode Label Printers

Barcode label printers require regular maintenance to function optimally. Before you begin maintenance or disinfection, make sure that you switch off the barcode label printer and disconnect it from the power socket.

It is best to use pre-saturated wipes to prevent the use of excess cleaning agents. This will prevent the cleaning agents from going to waste.

Before carrying out any cleaning task, you must fully ensure that you have donned the full list of personal protective equipment to minimize the risk of COVID-19.

The following cleaning agents can be used for disinfecting your barcode label printers:

  • 99% pure isopropyl alcohol
  • Printhead cleaning pens
  • Cleaning wipes
  • Cleaning swabs (fiber-free)
  • Phosphoric acid
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Chlorine
  • Ammonia chloride
  • Mild detergent
  • Compressed air can

Clean the barcode label printer with compressed air, brush or soft cloth to wipe away dust.

Use a fiber-free cleaning cloth with 99% isopropyl alcohol to remove grime and oil from it.

You can clean the barcode label printer’s interior with the help of a lint-free cloth, moistened with ammonium chloride and 99% alcohol. Do not use excessive amounts of solvents.

Make sure that you follow the user manual for platen rollers and printheads.

You can clean up the barcoede label printer exterior with compressed air, brush or soft cloth to blow away dust.

Appropriate disinfectants for cleaning the exterior of the barcode label printer include phosphoric acid, hydrogen peroxide, chlorine, ammonia chloride and alcohol.

For barcode label printer displays, use only 99% isopropyl alcohol.

Disinfecting Mobile Computers

Disconnect the device from the power outlet. Use only approved disinfecting solutions, which include isopropyl alcohol and mild dish soap.

Clean the housing with alcohol wipes.

Clean the display with alcohol wipes. Do not use excessive liquid; otherwise, it will pool on the display. Dry up the display with a soft cloth to ensure there is no streaking.

Clean the power connector with a cotton-tipped applicator in isopropyl alcohol. To free the power connector of dust, use a compressed air can.

You can also use the cotton-tipped applicator in isopropyl alcohol for cleaning the cradle connectors and wrist mount.
