Step-By-Step Instructions To Clear Ribbon Errors On The Zebra 105SL
To clear ribbon errors on a Zebra ZT111 printer, follow these troubleshooting and reset steps:
- Check the Ribbon Installation
Ribbon errors often occur if the ribbon is not properly installed.
- Open the printer’s media door.
- Ensure the ribbon is routed correctly:
- From the supply spindle (rear/top spindle)
- Through the printhead assembly
- To the take-up spindle (front spindle)
- Ensure the ribbon is tight and wrinkle-free.
- Set the Correct Print Mode
- Press the “Menu” button.
Go to Settings → Print Mode
Select:
- Thermal Transfer if you’re using a ribbon
- Direct Thermal if you’re not
- Calibrate the Printer
To recalibrate the ribbon sensor:
- Load ribbon and labels properly.
- Close the media door.
- Press Menu → Sensors → Calibrate.
- Follow on-screen prompts.
- Clean the Sensors
Dirty sensors can trigger ribbon errors.
- Turn off the printer.
- Open the printhead assembly.
- Locate and gently clean the ribbon sensor using isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.
- Reboot the Printer
After performing the above steps, reboot:
- Turn off the printer.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Turn it back on.
The printer may be in Direct Thermal mode (no ribbon) when you’re actually using Thermal Transfer (with ribbon), or vice versa.
Change Print Mode:
This allows the printer to detect ribbon presence correctly.
Still Not Working?
If ribbon errors persist:
- Ensure the ribbon type matches your printer specs.
- Try using a different ribbon roll (the current one might be defective).
- Update the printer firmware via Zebra’s official site if needed.
