- Check the Ribbon Installation
- Make sure the ribbon is installed under the printhead assembly and correctly threaded.
- The shiny (ink) side of the ribbon should face down toward the media.
- Ensure the ribbon is tight with no slack.
- Verify Media Type Settings
- Go to Settings > Media and Ribbon > set Ribbon to:
- “Thermal Transfer” if you’re using ribbon.
- “Direct Thermal” if you’re not using ribbon (and it must match actual usage).
- Calibrate the Ribbon Sensor
- Via Printer Menu:
- Press Menu > navigate to Tools or Sensors.
- Look for “Calibrate” > choose Ribbon Sensor Calibration.
- Follow on-screen steps.
- Or, via Zebra Setup Utilities (on PC):
- Open Zebra Setup Utilities > select your printer.
- Go to Printer Tools > Action tab > click Calibrate Ribbon Sensor.
- Clean the Ribbon Sensor
- Power off the printer.
- Use a lint-free cloth with isopropyl alcohol.
- Gently clean the ribbon sensor area, typically near where the ribbon passes through under the printhead.
- Reboot the Printer
- After calibration and checking settings, turn the printer off, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on.
