Zebra ZT410 How To Replace The Printhead

To learn how to replace the printhead on the Zebra ZT410 thermal label printer is fairly easy and can be done within minutes.

Watch the video below.

Step-By-Step Instructions On How To Replace The Printhead On The Zebra ZT410

Here’s how to replace the printhead on your Zebra ZT410 step-by-step:

Tools & Safety (Before You Start)

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord to avoid electrical shock or damage.
  • Allow the printer to cool if it was recently printing — the printhead gets hot.
  • Optional but recommended: Wear an antistatic wrist strap and work on a grounded, static-safe surface to protect sensitive electronics.

Step-by-Step Printhead Replacement

  1. Open the Printer
    • Release the latches and open the top cover so you can access the printhead assembly.
  2. Release the Old Printhead
    • Locate the printhead release latch on the right side.
    • Pull the latch outward to free the printhead assembly.
    • The printhead can then be swung up/out to access the cables and connectors.
  3. Disconnect Cables
    • Gently disconnect the printhead cable connectors (there are typically two).
    • Also remove the ground wire from the printhead.
  4. Remove the Old Printhead
    • Once cables are disconnected and the latch is released, slide the old printhead out of the printer.

    Install the New Printhead

  5. Connect the New Printhead
    • Align and plug the right-side printhead cable connector into the new printhead — it only fits one way.
    • Reattach the ground wire to its tab.
    • Then connect the left-side cable.
  6. Seat the Printhead
    • Insert the left side of the printhead assembly into its recessed slot.
    • Push the right side of the printhead back into place until the latch locks securely.
    • Press gently to verify it’s locked — the printhead should stay closed under normal pressure but lift slightly if you press down on it.

    Final Steps

  7. Clean the Printhead (Recommended)
    • Before loading media, wipe the printhead with a clean, lint-free swab or cleaning pen.
    • Move from center outward to remove fingerprints and debris.
  8. Reload Media
    • Reload labels (and ribbon if using thermal transfer).
  9. Test It
    • Plug in and power up the printer.
    • Print a configuration or test label to ensure everything is working correctly.

Tips & Precautions

  • Avoid touching the printhead surface with your fingers — oil can damage it.
  • Take care with cable connectors — they’re delicate and keyed to only insert one way.
  • If you’re not confident, a Zebra authorized service tech can perform the replacement.
