Replacing the printhead on your Zebra ZT411 or ZT421 printer is a straightforward process, but it requires careful handling to avoid damage. Here’s a step-by-step guide to assist you:
Important Safety Precautions
- Power Off: Ensure the printer is turned off and unplugged from the power source.
- Cool Down: Allow the printer to cool down if it has been in use recently to prevent burns.
- Static Safety: Use a grounded anti-static wrist strap and a conductive mat to protect sensitive electronic components from electrostatic discharge.
Steps to Replace the Printhead
- Open the Printer: Lift the top cover to access the print mechanism.
- Release the Printhead:
- Locate the printhead release latch on the right side.
- Push the latch toward the printhead to release it.
- Swing the right side of the printhead outward.
- Gently pull the printhead to the right to free it from the actuator arm.
- Disconnect Cables:
- Carefully detach the two cable connectors from the printhead.
- If present, remove the ground wire attached to the printhead.
- Remove the Printhead: Lift the printhead out of the printer to remove it completely.
- Install the New Printhead:
- Align the new printhead with the actuator arm.
- Insert the left side tab into the recessed slot on the left side of the actuator arm.
- Align the spring wire notch on the back of the printhead with the spring wire in the printer.
- Push the right side of the printhead into place until the latch locks it securely.
- Reconnect Cables:
- Attach the ground wire (if applicable) to the printhead’s ground tab.
- Connect the two cable connectors to the printhead, ensuring they are properly seated.
- Verify Installation:
- Press down on the printhead to ensure it moves freely and locks into place when pressure is released.
- Clean the Printhead:
- Use a new cleaning pen to gently wipe the printhead, removing any fingerprints or debris.
- Clean from the center outward to avoid damaging the printhead.
- Reload Media: Place the media back into the printer.
- Test the Printer:
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
- Print a configuration report to ensure the new printhead is functioning correctly.
